Jay Maki: Master Maki began his martial arts training in 1974 and began teaching martial arts in 1981. He is currently a 6th degree black belt, and class "A" instructor with the Karate Institute of America. Upon moving to the Copper Country in 1987 to follow a career in public education, Sensei Maki opened the Copper Country KIA in Calumet. Sensei Maki serves on the KIA board of directors as well as the national testing board.
Sensei Maki spent 24 years as a Special Education teacher and School Counselor, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and past Executive Director of the Historic Calumet Theatre.

Sandy Eisele: Sensei Eisele is a 1st Degree Black Belt with the K.I.A. She started her martial arts training in High School, completing a black belt in Tae Kwon Do under the instruction B.C. Yu in Ann Arbor, MI. After taking a long hiatus to attend college and start a family, she returned to her martial arts training with Karate Institute of America - Copper Country. She has been training and teaching with Sensei Maki for over 15 years.
She also attends the kickboxing training offered by the Karate Institute.
